PCM and COVID-19

PCM and COVID-19

There are multiple types of COVID-19 tests currently in development, including antibody tests - some of which are available as an at-home testing kit. Of course, there are concerns about how effective and accurate these tests will be. When a COVID test is performed by someone who isn't formally trained, the tests are subject to being improperly carried out. Once the specimen from the test is collected, it is then sent to a testing lab, in which the integrity of the specimen is threatened by environmental factors during transportation - this is where PCM comes in. Phase Change Materials provide process temperature control for a variety of temperature ranges and requirements. As with many biological specimens, the temperature must remain steady in a suitable range, as excessive heat or coldness potentially impairs the specimen's authenticity, leading to inaccurate test results.
